**Assessment and consultation** are critical components of effective prevention work in higher education. We provide evidenced-based community assessment tools and consultative services on best practices for reducing the likelihood of discrimination, bullying, sexual harassment, and other sexual misconduct in higher education.

Ongoing assessment of the community climate helps us understand the prevalence of harm (e.g., discrimination, bullying, harassment) across the Harvard community, identify gaps in existing programs, and evaluate the effectiveness of prevention efforts.

By seeking information through education, consultation, surveys, focus groups, and engagement in field research, we can gain insights into community members’ experiences, interests, and knowledge of resources. These efforts are essential to the design and implementation of community action plans that seek to continuously improve safety, inclusion, and belonging for the Harvard community.

The Prevention Team, often in collaboration with partner teams and offices, provides extensive learning, development, and training opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows each year.

- These opportunities take the form of eLearning modules, live virtual and in-person workshops, interactive educational dialogues, and customized formats to meet your community’s needs. Contact the Prevention Team for more information on requesting training, workshops, and more.
- Topics include:

### Orientation and Onboarding

The Prevention team supports Harvard Schools in developing values-based, community-centered orientation and onboarding programs that seek to prevent discrimination, bulling, sexual harassment, and other sexual misconduct.

This customizable, interactive workshop helps participants recognize situations that may involve interpersonal harm, and develop personalized strategies to discourage and disrupt harm, and practice referring peers to supportive resources.

### Promoting Psychological Safety to Engage Active Bystanders

Teams and communities that promote psychological safety are more likely to foster active bystander intervention when harm occurs. If you are interested in learning how leaders can create safer conditions for people to speak up, express their ideas, and ask questions when challenges arise, our team can help!

### Cultivating Consent: Everyday Practices

This community conversation invites participants to consider the ways power and consent show up in our everyday lives. This session focuses on how we can incorporate consent-based practices that honor personal agency, boundaries, and choice into our leadership, learning, and work on campus.

### Understanding University Policies: Roles & Responsibilities

We offer a suite of workshops on the University's Policies addressing Non-Discrimination, Anti-Bullying, Title IX Sexual Harassment, and Other Sexual Misconduct. These workshops aim to help Harvard staff, faculty, and post-doctoral fellows recognize their roles and responsibilities under University policies. As part of these workshops, we offer practical tools for responding to potential concerns of such harm through interactive case scenarios and information on supportive resources.

### Gender-Inclusive Practices

Whether in the classroom, workplace, or a residential community, there are steps all of us can take to be affirming and welcoming of Harvard community members of all identities. This conversation-based workshop invites participants to explore different ways of thinking about gender in the context of University values, and to develop strategies for creating environments where everyone’s safety, dignity, and contributions are honored.
